Tips on Tuesday

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we are visiting LinkedIn.

In a previous Tip on Tuesday (which you can read here) we spoke about the important of your company profile on LinkedIn.

In addition, we really want to emphasise how important your personal profile is on LinkedIn, especially if you’re the face of the business.

Make sure your bio is snappy and informative, make sure all your contact information is up to date and that all your experience is reflected.

It is pointless having an amazing company profile if your personal profile lets you down.  You want to wow potential contacts and make them want to get in touch to use your services!

Tips on Tuesday

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we’re going to be looking at Facebook and how we can create business relationships on there.

Facebook Aire Media Blog

I think many people see Facebook as a more frivolous social media vehicle.  However, you can just as easily make business contacts. Find a page you want to make contact with and “Like” them, but make sure you Like them as your business page and NOT as your personal profile.

To do this, head to their profile page.  You will see the standard “Like” button, together with further buttons.

How to Like as Business Page

If you hover the cursor over the “More” tab, you will get a drop down menu, one of which is “Like as your page”.  Selecting this option will bring up a list of all pages you manage and you can select which page you want to Like as.

Alternatively, from your business homepage, click the “See Pages Feed” section on the right hand side of your homepage which will bring up a “Like Other Pages” option.

The bad news is that you can only do this from a device via a browser and not using the Facebook/Facebook Pages app.

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s Tip on Tuesday is a generic social media tip and in response to a question I was asked at a networking event.

Question mark image

Very early in our Tips on Tuesday segment, we did a post on creating a brand.  I was asked how that would fit in with using profile pictures and avatars as an advertising spot for special offers, job opportunities etc.

Make sure your logo also appears on your website and as a favicon.  You really cannot overuse that image which makes you visible.

As long as it is instantly recognisable that the account is YOU, you can’t go far wrong with your use of imagery!

CPS publishes new social media guidelines

As part of Hate Crime Awareness Week, The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has today published guidelines as to the range of offences for which social media users could face prosecution.

CPS Logo ImageThe guidelines make it clear that social media users who create derogatory hashtags, who try to gather virtual mobs to target people, people who post humiliating photoshopped images, users who indulge in the practice of “baiting” and people who post or encourage people to repeat grossly offensive messages should face prosecution, which could result in a jail term.  The maximum jail term for such offences is 12 months.

The guidelines are keen to point out that message must pass what they’re describing as a “high threshold” before a prosecution can take place.

The guidelines go on to clarify that teenagers who send sexually explicit images of themselves are not to be prosecuted providing it is consensual and all parties are a similar age.

The new guidelines (which can be read in full here) are particularly welcome after a report earlier this year found that 1 in 4 teenagers had suffered some form of online abuse.

Further information on Hate Crime Awareness Week can be found by visiting the Stop Hate UK website.

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we’re going to make a suggestion for LinkedIn.

Do remember that LinkedIn has a facility where you can join groups relevant to your sector and chat with other professionals.  LinkedIn is slightly different from other social media platforms in that it is geared towards business use only, In fact it is marketed as “the world’s largest professional network”. As such it is a valuable resource for discussing ideas, sharing expertise and above all making good business links.

Have a search today for some groups that seem pertinent to your line of business and join in!  Share your best tips or ask a question.  You will soon see how easy it is to participate in online networking!

For today’s tip we’re going to take a look at Facebook profiles

Facebook Aire Media BlogIt is really important to ensure that your company information is as complete as possible on Facebook.  A lot of people think because it is “only” Facebook that this doesn’t matter, but it makes a good impression and is a free and easy way of getting all your relevant information in the public domain.

Make sure your profile includes your website address, your location, your opening hours and a concise description of what your business does.  It is also important that when you’re choosing the relevant business type you choose the most appropriate.

Remember a good Facebook profile makes a good first impression!  It also makes it easy for your customers and potential customers to find you.  Isn’t that great?!

A small but often overlooked bit of advice for today’s Tip on Tuesday

TwitterTipsAireMedia

Twitter lends itself perfectly for multiple people to use the same company account.

It is a nice touch for each person who uses the account to sign off their tweets with their initials.  Whilst giving the company account a more personal touch, this also means that customers know who they have spoken to and are able to connect via other methods to the company and ask for the person they want.  Customers like continuity, especially when it makes their life much easier – and as a result makes it much easier for them to buy your service or product!

A pinned tweet or indeed the company bio is the perfect place to name who is using the Twitter account.

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip is about using a new tool on Twitter.

TwitterTipsAireMedia

Did you know you can now add Gifs into tweets?  This can be a really great marketing tool.  It won’t work for every tweet you write, but add an appropriate Gif into one of your tweets and it will catch people’s eye.  Don’t overuse the tool, but a carefully shared Gif can ensure certain tweets reach further.
