Twitter is a great tool for marketing, especially as you can use it to grow totally organically; which for companies with a smaller marketing budget is ideal.

Our tip today is talking about the retweet.

Twitter retweet arrowsRetweeting is a great way of gaining exposure, telling someone “yes we like what you’ve said here” or even sharing specialist knowledge from other industry leaders on Twitter. Do make sure that you achieve a reasonable level of retweeting.  Don’t spam your followers with random retweets all day.  Make sure content is non-controversial, pertinent and relevant!

Add your own comments to the retweet for added value! Twitter is all about sharing – make that sharing work for you!

Tips on Tuesday

We’ve mentioned this tip in part before, but we’re going to extend it a little here.

We’ve often emphasised how important it is to ensure there are no errors in your social media postings; but it’s really important that you apply that to your website too.

Your website is, in effect, a shop window.  If it is littered with spelling errors, then you’re already fighting an uphill battle to get customers to engage with you.

Copy and paste all the text from your website into a programme like Word (other programmes are available!) and make sure your spelling, grammar and punctuation are perfect!

It can be very tempting to use social media as a platform to try to sell as much as you can.  After all they’re free platforms, so any material return on your time investment is a profit.

However, don’t be tempted to do the hard-sell and nothing else.  There is nothing more likely to encourage potential customers to unfollow you that seeing a social media stream full of nothing more than “buy this” or “use us”.

Be creative in your social media postings, do a mix of showing what you’ve done, sharing customer feedback and retweeting other’s content.  All will still encourage customers to keep following you because you’re interesting.  Keep them interested and you’re more likely to convert to a sale.
