Tips on Tuesday

“social media”

noun

Websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

Hello….is it us you’re looking for?!

The fundamental reason we’re all on social media is to communicate, so don’t forget to implement methods to encourage engagement within your marketing plans.

A great way to get people talking is, very simply, to ask them a question. “What do you think?”, “which do you prefer?”, “how do you feel about…?”. You can always add a Call to Action within your posts to encourage your readers to get in touch!

Tips on Tuesday

Remember, your content doesn’t always have to be your own, you can share from other sources.

We’re a big fan of sharing relevant articles pertinent to the industry, wider reaching articles that tell a good story, articles that support a cause you’re interested in or even simply some good old-fashioned good news!

However, it is good practice to share articles that are free to read! It is irritating to follow a link to an article you really want to read, only to find out that you must pay to do so and the main body of the article is hidden behind a paywall. Remember there are plenty of news sources and industry resources out there where you can share their articles for free (with attribution of course – we’re a fan of simply sharing directly to the site carrying the article), and this will prove more worthwhile for you in the long run!

Do the images you use in your social media posts meet our rule of six?!

Camera

We know that posts that contain images perform better on social media, but how do you find the perfect image to accompany your post.

We’ve created a handy guide to help you choose the right image: –

  1. Are the images good quality? Images for social media don’t need to be professional quality but they need to be crisp and clear.
  2. Are they attractive? Images must add value to your post – an unattractive image will do the opposite!
  3. Are the images relevant? Make sure the image you choose has some bearing to the content of the post; choosing an image purely because it looks nice despite having no context is not a useful strategy.
  4. Is the image easy to see? If the image is too dark or too small, it will bring little value.
  5. Use text in your images sparingly; remember screen reading devices cannot read text on images so to make your posts accessible put the main text in your post.
  6. Add branding where necessary. Not every image will need branding especially if your profile shots are your logo, but if you choose to do so remember good branding is noticeable but not obtrusive.

Have fun, enjoy creating and improve your social media channels by adding some great images!

Tips on Tuesday

Whilst you want to be consistent in the frequency of your posting, make sure you mix up the rest of the details!

Time

Rather than always post at the same time, why not experiment with being active on your social media channels at various times and days e.g. outside normal business hours or on weekends.  By changing when you post, you have the opportunity to engage with a whole different audience.

You can use the analytical tools available on any social media channel to find out when you’re most successful posting time is and reformulate your social media plan to encompass those popular times!

Tips on Tuesday

So, you’re on social media, great – but don’t be complacent!

View finderMake sure you make it as easy as possible for people to find your social media accounts.  It is such a waste if you create great content and there’s no-one there to see it!

Ensure your social media handles are consistent and intuitive. Make sure your profiles and unified and create a strong brand; using the same profile picture across all channels is a great way to be spotted quickly!

Use your marketing literature like a map; whether traditional leaflets or business cards, or online communications such as mailshots or email signatures, always include your social media handles.

Help people to find you and communicate with you, after all that’s what social media is all about!
