Tips on Tuesday

We’ve spoken often about how important it is to add images to your posts on social media.

Studies show that after 72 hours people only remember 10% of what the read, however with the use of a carefully chosen image, that figure can rise to a massive 65%!

A few times recently, we’ve seen people posting “image for attention” in their posts, and the image used has no relevance whatsoever to the post in question.

Make sure when you use an image, you make it pertinent to your content.  A funny picture is lovely, but if it has no meaning it won’t be long before your followers will get bored.

There is a vast stock of royalty free images on the web – make sure you choose carefully and share away!

Do the images you use in your social media posts meet our rule of six?!

Camera

We know that posts that contain images perform better on social media, but how do you find the perfect image to accompany your post.

We’ve created a handy guide to help you choose the right image: –

  1. Are the images good quality? Images for social media don’t need to be professional quality but they need to be crisp and clear.
  2. Are they attractive? Images must add value to your post – an unattractive image will do the opposite!
  3. Are the images relevant? Make sure the image you choose has some bearing to the content of the post; choosing an image purely because it looks nice despite having no context is not a useful strategy.
  4. Is the image easy to see? If the image is too dark or too small, it will bring little value.
  5. Use text in your images sparingly; remember screen reading devices cannot read text on images so to make your posts accessible put the main text in your post.
  6. Add branding where necessary. Not every image will need branding especially if your profile shots are your logo, but if you choose to do so remember good branding is noticeable but not obtrusive.

Have fun, enjoy creating and improve your social media channels by adding some great images!

A nice little Instagram tip today, which is such a small thing, but so important.

Vintage Instagram

A really important thing to remember is that Instagram works on square images, just like old Polaroid pictures.   Really try to make your images work in a square format, or if possible switch your camera mode to “square”.

Mediocre pictures will get lost on Instagram, make your images shout for you by being the best they can possibly be!

A lovely bright Tip on Tuesday today on such a lovely, sunny day!

Newest Instagram LogoWe all know Instagram is all about the image, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take care with those images.  It is so easy to upload snaps to Instagram that sometimes the quality of the shot can be lost in amongst the desire to share a flurry of images.

If you’re using Instagram to market your brand, make sure your images are high quality, sharp, interesting, and relevant to you; one high quality, creative image will say so much more than a number of less attractive photos.

It might only take a few seconds but quality control matters!
