Tips on Tuesday

You’ve, obviously, been following Tips on Tuesday from the start, and your social media profiles are absolutely fantastic.

But people know how to find them, right?

Magnifying Glass

Don’t make people work to find your profiles.  Link them from anywhere and everywhere! Have your handles on your business cards, email signatures, websites, literature and make your usernames as intuitive as possible.  There is nothing more frustrating for someone who wants to listen to what you have to say, but cannot hear it because they can’t find it!

Make sure you make it as simple as possible to hear what you have to say!

Tips on Tuesday

Ok so here’s the thing.  You’ve created a fantastic social media profile, now you can relax, right?  WRONG!

ProfileAlways make sure your profile is up-to-date.  Make sure any website changes are reflected therein.  Keep on top of contact changes, changes to contact details and changes to team members.

There’s nothing more frustrating for a potential customer than to follow a link on your social media only to find it is out of date.  The customer is trying to contact you – make it easy for them! It is unlikely you’ll get a second chance.

Tips on Tuesday

A lot of our Tips on Tuesday are about how you can use social media to promote your online presence, but it is always worth thinking about the mechanics of social media and more generic online matters.

Lock

Today’s tip is a really simple one.  Think about your online security.  Make sure you don’t have the same password for all your social media accounts and make the password something strong and difficult to crack.  After all you wouldn’t have the same PIN for all your bank cards would you…WOULD you?!

It is important to maintain your social accounts as professionally as possible – and by having strong and secure passwords you are minimising the risk of hacking.

Tips on Tuesday

When making a post on any of your social media channels it is important to get a good balance of content.

Mirror

That means not making it all about you!

Make sure your posts are a decent mix of your news together with posts that add value for people reading, sharing interesting content and simply interacting with other people.  There is nothing more likely to make followers hit the big “unfollow” button than a social media feed that contains nothing but posts on what you’re selling.

Be creative, be innovative and share well!

Tips on Tuesday

Picture the scene, you’ve set up your social media profiles and think they look great.  All that’s left is to make them live, right? Wrong!

Anonymous Mask

Before you put anything live, make sure you take a look at it through your customers’ eyes.  Use a private window to view the profiles to make sure they look as good to other people as they do to you!

Such a small and quick activity, but one that could make a huge difference to your online presence.

Tips on Tuesday

Admit it, we’ve all had a sneaky look at who is following us.  And discovered that people have unfollowed us and felt rather affronted!

Follow MeTry and remember that your followers list will be an ever-changing landscape and this is positive!  Don’t be tempted to ask people why they’ve unfollowed you and give ideas to other people!  Continue to post regularly, add value and interact with the people who DO follow you.  For every follower you lose, you will gain new followers to interact with.

Tips on Tuesday

Social media feedback is instant; so don’t be afraid to use it!

Feedback

If you get a positive review on Facebook, or someone tweets about your company, don’t be afraid to share that out and draw people’s attention to it.

Good news is brilliant; blowing your own trumpet through genuine examples of customer satisfaction is a great way to show people how good you are at what you do!

Tips on Tuesday

Remember that half the battle in gaining new followers across your social media is being visible, so it is really important you take every opportunity to alert new contacts as to your social media profiles.

Email image

Make sure you add your social media profiles to your email signatures.  Every email you send will act as a shop window and give your contacts a chance to find – and follow – your profiles.

Make sure you include a clickable link and a clear call to action (“follow us”, “like us” etc).  Make it simple.  Make it quick.

Tips on Tuesday

If you ask any business what is their number one priority, the answer will surely be to generate leads.

Credit Card

Don’t be tempted to use your social media channels as nothing more than a vehicle to try to sell.  Make sure you share engaging content, write posts that add value, behind the scenes images and become an industry expert.  Y

Your followers don’t want to be spammed with nothing more than “buy from us”, so make it worth their while to follow you.  Once you’re in their consciousness, the chances are they will remember you when they DO want to make a purchase.

Tips on Tuesday

Remember to make your social media channels work for you.

Drive Traffic

Don’t be afraid to use your social media accounts to drive people to where you want them to be! Want a customer to see your pictures on Instagram?  Tell them about it on Twitter.  Need your customers to visit your website?  Share a link on Facebook.

Social media channels work best if you utilise them as a package; none exist in a vacuum and for maximum impact you need maximum exposure!
