Consider taking the time to collect these questions and write your responses to them.  You can present them as an ongoing thread, or simply share one/two a week as a regular feature.

Potential customers will appreciate the effort in answering their questions before they realise they have them!

Tips on Tuesday

It is no secret that 2020 has been at best challenging.

Coffe break

At this time of year we would usually be giving the advice that it’s important to be taking a break if your sector permits, and despite everything that has changed life to a “new normal” we think the advice is just as pertinent as ever.

2020 has been stressful, tiring and demanding.  It is ok to have a rest and take some time away from your social media channels.  In fact, looking after YOU and your employees and making sure they have a break is probably the best contribution towards marketing you can make.

If at all possible Take some time off to relax, recharge your batteries and ensure you’re refreshed to move into the final quarter of 2020!

Did you know that YouTube isn’t just a website, it’s a search engine?  And in fact it is the second largest search engine behind Google!

Video productionThat statistic alone should encourage you to use video on your social channels including a branded YouTube channel.

Video is a fantastic tool to hook your audience simply because they’re very easy to consume. Social media success lies in your ability to condense information down into easily digestible snippets of content that is long enough to maintain viewers’ attention but short enough to leave them wanting more; and what better way to do this than a video!

Whilst a huge budget on video content isn’t necessary, do make sure your social media videos have decent picture quality and clear sound quality!

Try creating a small (no more than 60 seconds), but relevant video for your social media channels, give it an engaging title and useful hashtags and measure your performance using the analytical tools available!

Did you know you’re 4 times more likely to buy something if it has been recommended by a friend?

Four

Where do we now find our friends?  Yep, on our social media channels!  As at March 2020, approximately 42 million people in the United Kingdom use Facebook, 16 million use Twitter and 21 million use LinkedIn, whilst Instagram has 14 million active users per month and YouTube has 35.6 million visits per month in the UK.

Those statistics alone should be enough to convince you that a social media presence on at least one of the major five social media channels is essential and should feature heavily as part of your marketing strategy.

Remember, social media is a way for you to be in lots of rooms and reach lots of people whilst maintaing a low spend.

Have you a goal?

Goal

Now football has resumed in England, albeit behing closed doors we started thinking about other goals!  What is your social media goal?

I’m sure most people will want to use their social media to sell their product or service and that is fine; a great goal.

But you can’t do that unless people see what you post.  Your very first social media goal should simply be to stop the scroll!  Catch people’s attention so they don’t swipe passed your post.

Are your posts engaging with a good image? Spend a little time being adventurous and finding creative ways to catch people’s attention.  After all if you stop the scroll, they may well purchase from you – achieving your other social goals!!

Tips on Tuesday

Today officially marks the 100th day since the UK went into lockdown.

100

Over the past 100 days business have had to adapt to a “new normal” and online presence has become even more important.

We really feel today is a time to reflect on this unprecedented time in terms of how it has shaped business practice and whether any changes that you have implemented as a result of the lockdown you will be carrying forward.

Have you changed how you post due to Covid-19?  As we move towards some easing of lockdown measures will you carry on with what you’ve been doing online during lockdown?

One thing we’ve noticed is the positive use of social media during this time; from local groups organising support for vulnerable people, to people offering their business expertise for free.  Such relationships can only be a good thing, and we’d love to see that sort of community feel continue when we get back to the “old normal” way of doing things!

Tips on Tuesday

Today has seen announcements that will make many businesses feel a great sense of relief as they move towards being able to open on 4th July.

Communication

However, opening will of course come with some changes; remember to use your social media channels and your online presence to communicate those changes.  Ask yourself what your customers need to consider: –

  • Are you working on an appointment only basis?
  • How will you maintain the necessary 1m+ social distancing required?
  • What measures will you take to ensure the relevant hygeine practises are met?
  • Will you be immediately opening to your usual hours?
  • Will you require customers to wear masks inside your premises?

As much as it is a cliche, forewarned really is forearmed and it will make for a much more seamless transition back to a more normal situation if everyone knows what is expected of them and more importantly what measures you are taking to help maintain the safety of your staff and customers.

Tips on Tuesday

Remember to have fun with your social media feeds.

FunIf things have been different for you during lockdown, and you’re not yet in a position to reopen your business you might be running out of relevant content for your social media feeds.

Don’t be afraid to create posts not directly relevant to your business and especially try and have fun.  Tapping into trending topics can be useful – if it’s #NationalBiscuitDay why not share yours? Create a poll of several options and encourage your followers to interact.

Are you using the time away from normality to rearrange your premises or carry out essential repairs? Don’t forget to document these for your followers.

Why not share images of your work at home space or share tips that work for you for efficient working.

Remember if it isn’t offensive, there’s no such thing as wrong content.  Have a play, have fun and populate your timelines!

Tips on Tuesday

We often look at how you can create content that will enrich your social media feeds for your audience.

Listen

Don’t forget you can use your social media to listen to your audience and find out what they want from you.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions to garner opinion; “did we do this right?”, “which colour of this item do you prefer”.

Remember creating meaningful interaction not only gives you free market research, but also creates relationships with your customers.  After all, a customer is going to be interested in a company that listens to them and gives them what they want!

As we remain in a new normal, it is more important than ever – and could be the difference between survival or not – to listen and adapt how your customers require.
