Our first tip is one we discuss every year, and whilst the way we celebrate Christmas might look a big different, this year it feels so important to acknowledge this tip.  And that is PLAN A BREAK. The mental load we’ve all had this year has been like no other, and it is so important for mental and physical health that we take time away from work to rest, relax and regroup.

Whether you plan your break as a full shut down, or simply factor in your away time by scheduling your social posts in advance, the important thing is that you have some time for you.

We’re hoping for a full digital detox over part of the Christmas break which means time away from phones and other digital devices – how about you?!

Tips on Tuesday

Have you a goal?

Goal

Now football has resumed in England, albeit behing closed doors we started thinking about other goals!  What is your social media goal?

I’m sure most people will want to use their social media to sell their product or service and that is fine; a great goal.

But you can’t do that unless people see what you post.  Your very first social media goal should simply be to stop the scroll!  Catch people’s attention so they don’t swipe passed your post.

Are your posts engaging with a good image? Spend a little time being adventurous and finding creative ways to catch people’s attention.  After all if you stop the scroll, they may well purchase from you – achieving your other social goals!!

Have you got your social media strategy in place for the coming year?

Planning

Remember your strategy should cover the following: –

  1. Online presence – where will you send prospective customers to find out more?
  2. Content strategy – where are your target audience and what sort of content do they look for?
  3. Social media – which social media channels you will use and what content you will share
  4. Brand – this should be in place before you venture into the online word and should cover a name, a logo, and a voice.
  5. Analytics/insights – use the tools provided to collate data on your online performance which will help you improve your performance.
  6. Content management – keeping track of all the information you share including planning future posts.

How do you like to plan?

Tips on Tuesday

Did you know it is just 10 weeks tomorrow until Christmas Day (sorry….sorry!)

Christmas

Use your time wisely! Make sure you have relevant social media goals for the next 10 weeks with a firm idea of what you want to achieve before Christmas.  As always given the time constraints, make sure your goals are achievable!

Don’t be afraid to share your company’s Christmas traditions across social media – giving yourself a little more personality at this time of year can be a really good thing.

It is also important to schedule in a break! Don’t be afraid to take some time off from your social media schedule over the festive season, with a view to coming back refreshed and ready to go in January!

You have 10 weeks….how are YOU going to use them?

Tips on Tuesday

We’ve often spoken about the importance of having a social media plan.

Spontaneity

A plan is one of the most important things to consider when working with your social media strategy.  However, that doesn’t – or shouldn’t – mean that you need to lose all spontaneity with your posting.

If something happens in your industry that you want to respond to, or even a national event don’t miss out on the opportunity to be part of something because a post wasn’t planned.

The best social media plans lay a framework whilst leaving room for spontaneity and personality!

Tips on Tuesday

Scheduling tools can be really useful when managing your social media feeds.

Schedule

However a word of warning, remember scheduling posts means you’re posting when you’re not actually able to, make sure you allow yourself time to review the posts and any responses to them so you don’t miss anything important!

In addition, allow yourself to cancel scheduled posts if they’re not longer appropriate in light of wider world happenings or indeed changes within your business.

Scheduling tools are useful, but they don’t replace you!  They may save you a job, but don’t forget they can create other tasks that need managing!
