Tips on Tuesday

Back with a slightly more sensible Tip on Tuesday than “don’t break your foot” but one that can be applied to all your social media channels.

Every message you send out is marketing.  You might not think it, especially if you’re not directly advertising a service, but each time you make a comment on any of your social media channels you are representing your business and therefore marketing it.  With that in mind make sure your messages are well presented and structured and make a valuable contribution.

Remember though, contribution isn’t necessarily directly about your business, simply a valid and relevant or even personally interesting comment.

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip is an important one (well aren’t they all?!) that can be applied to all your social media channels.

Image of all social media iconsFour little words.  DO NOT BUY FOLLOWERS.

It can be really tempting to buy followers – after all the most successful accounts are the ones with most followers and therefore most reach, but you need to remember that the number of followers isn’t as important as the number of followers with which you have a meaningful engagement.  Your end aim is to engage and drive people to your website and buying followers will not achieve this – you will end up with a raft of fake account followers which won’t increase that all important engagement.

Don’t forget a sudden increase in followers with no apparent reason could well look suspicious and harm your reputation.

Increase your followers by great content, active participation in discussions and being visible.

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s Tip on Tuesday is a return to a Twitter tip we’ve spoken about before.

TwitterTipsAireMedia

Way back in March we spoke about how important the use of the hashtag was (you can read all about that HERE).

We want to reiterate today that you MUST keep your hashtags relevant to what you’re saying.  There’s nothing worse than seeing a company use a completely unrelated hashtag simply to try to grab exposure.  If you can use a trending hashtag appropriately and with relevance, that’s great.  If not, create your own hashtags and let your content do the talking!

It is really important that you don’t flood your networks with spam.   That isn’t to say you can’t post regularly – if you have something important or fun to say, then by all means say it!  But don’t post for the sake of posting.  There is nothing more annoying to a potential customer than seeing constant, irrelevant content.

Live by the old adage, “it is quality not quantity!”

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s Tip on Tuesday can really be applied to any of your social media channels.

Today’s tip is really simple.  When you’re on social media don’t mistake a public reply for a private message!  It is really important to ensure that potentially sensitive content is kept off your timelines.

To avoid this, once a conversation with a prospective customer is ready to move to DM I simply send a message and ask for an email address so I can take any discussions fully away from social media to prevent any mishaps!

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we’re going to look at Twitter

TwitterTipsAireMediaTo use twitter most efficiently it is important that you keep up to date with twitter etiquette by learning the lingo!  So as a handy guide, we think the three most important abbreviations to know are: –

RT: A retweet is simply re-sharing of content already posted to twitter.  That can either be your own previously posted content or someone else’s.  There is a retweet button on twitter to make it simple for you to do this, which will look something like this: –

Twitter retweet arrowsSome people like to add an “RT” before the tweet to make it clear that they’re sharing content but this isn’t essential.

MT: MT stands for modified tweet, which means you are paraphrasing someone else’s content.

PRT: a PRT is a partial retweet, which means you are sharing a snippet of a tweet rather than retweeting the whole content verbatim.

DM: a DM is a direct message – which means the content will go directly into another twitter uses mailbox and not be visible on either their or your timeline.

Tips on Tuesday

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we’re giving some general advice that you can apply to all the social media channels you use.

Image of all social media iconsA very simple tip; don’t beg for followers!

There is nothing more off-putting on a social media account than a brand begging to up their follower count.  By all means join a networking hour or group and suggest you’d like to make some useful connections, but keep it businesslike, not asking simply to get your follower count up.

Remember to aim for valuable followers due to the quality of your content.

Tips on Tuesday

Stopping off with another of our bitesize Tips on Tuesday.

TwitterTipsAireMediaToday we’re having a little look at Twitter.  Retweeting is a really valuable resource on Twitter.  It is an easy and quick way of sharing other industry influencers’ content.  However it is important to not overdo the retweets.  Your followers want to see YOUR content, they don’t want to see a feed full of other people’s content.

You might also want to put a caveat that “a retweet is not necessarily an endorsement” or be careful to only share pertinent and non-controversial content.

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s Tip on Tuesday is small but beautifully formed and can be applied to all your social media channels.

Image of all social media iconsProfile pictures are wonderful – they’re your online shop window.  Each time you make a post on any of your channels, your profile picture will appear.

It is really important to make sure that not only is your profile shot the correct size for each platform (you can follow our handy guide to image sizes)but that your photograph is clear in a smaller size.  It is no good having your logo as a profile shot if it is simply a little blurry square, you want people to know it is you posting!

Scheduling tools can be a very valuable resource when you’re managing a number of social media accounts and mean that you can ensure you have a presence even when it is impossible for you to be online.

However, it is vital to ensure that you also maintain a live online presence – don’t rely on scheduling tools to do it all for you.  Ensure you regularly login to all your social media accounts to deal with queries, to make use of industry specific current affairs and to make it appear that your account has a personality.  It is really easy to tell which social media accounts are done solely via scheduling.
