Tips on Tuesday

One of the things I’m often asked is “how do I get more followers”.  Whilst number of followers isn’t the single most important facet of your social media strategy, it is the first thing that you tend to notice about your accounts.

My favourite method of engaging with more followers isn’t by stating what YOU do, it is sharing what OTHERS do.   By sharing good posts with relevant, interesting or amusing content you are making yourself visible to potential new followers.

Don’t be afraid to share and comment on other people’s posts.  Social media is about just that, being social!

Tips on Tuesday

A snippet this week that you can use for any social media channel you use.

Don’t ask for shares!

Picture the scene, you write great content, you add it to your feed then you finish with “please share?” You know what will happen folks, you will get very few shares.

The best way to encourage people to share your posts is simply by creating great content! If you have strong pieces, full of great information; the shares will happen organically – and will be worth more because they have happened spontaneously and not at your own request.

Tips on Tuesday

One of the most important things you will ever learn when you’re starting to market your business is that you can’t be seen if you can’t be found!

Having that all important online presence is an absolute must.  However, make sure people can find you once you’re live; make your usernames intuitive and simple and, most importantly, relating to your company name.  Make the search easy – if you can’t be seen then you can’t be heard!

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip is a massively useful tool for any social media channel you have a presence on.

Simply, check your applause rate.  Applause rate is simply the rate at which you gain approval actions on your content.  Approval can take the form of +1s, likes, thumbs ups, favourites etc.  It can easily be calculated by dividing the number of approvals on a site by the number of posts you have made.

Applause rate is a simplistic yet useful tool for checking out what content works well and what doesn’t, meaning you can tailor your posts to give your followers exactly what they want to read.

How your social media presence is performing is massively important to any business and measurement thereof should be written into any social media plan.

Tips on Tuesday

Back with a slightly more sensible Tip on Tuesday than “don’t break your foot” but one that can be applied to all your social media channels.

Every message you send out is marketing.  You might not think it, especially if you’re not directly advertising a service, but each time you make a comment on any of your social media channels you are representing your business and therefore marketing it.  With that in mind make sure your messages are well presented and structured and make a valuable contribution.

Remember though, contribution isn’t necessarily directly about your business, simply a valid and relevant or even personally interesting comment.

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip is an important one (well aren’t they all?!) that can be applied to all your social media channels.

Image of all social media iconsFour little words.  DO NOT BUY FOLLOWERS.

It can be really tempting to buy followers – after all the most successful accounts are the ones with most followers and therefore most reach, but you need to remember that the number of followers isn’t as important as the number of followers with which you have a meaningful engagement.  Your end aim is to engage and drive people to your website and buying followers will not achieve this – you will end up with a raft of fake account followers which won’t increase that all important engagement.

Don’t forget a sudden increase in followers with no apparent reason could well look suspicious and harm your reputation.

Increase your followers by great content, active participation in discussions and being visible.

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip on Tuesday can be – and should be – applied to all your social media channels.

It is really important that you don’t flood your networks with spam.   That isn’t to say you can’t post regularly – if you have something important or fun to say, then by all means say it!  But don’t post for the sake of posting.  There is nothing more annoying to a potential customer than seeing constant, irrelevant content.

Live by the old adage, “it is quality not quantity!”

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s Tip on Tuesday can really be applied to any of your social media channels.

Today’s tip is really simple.  When you’re on social media don’t mistake a public reply for a private message!  It is really important to ensure that potentially sensitive content is kept off your timelines.

To avoid this, once a conversation with a prospective customer is ready to move to DM I simply send a message and ask for an email address so I can take any discussions fully away from social media to prevent any mishaps!

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s Tip on Tuesday is looking at how valuable a resource LinkedIn can be if used correctly.

LinkedIn LogoLinkedIn is slightly different from other social media channels in that it is more geared towards B2B and freelancers making professional contacts.  In that case it is far more important to keep a more professional tone on LinkedIn.  That isn’t to say you can’t use humour, but keep it light.

You can use your other social media channels to showcase the fun side of you or your business but LinkedIn is about sharing valuable advice between experts and professionals.  Don’t be afraid to do so!

Tips on Tuesday

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we’re giving some general advice that you can apply to all the social media channels you use.

Image of all social media iconsA very simple tip; don’t beg for followers!

There is nothing more off-putting on a social media account than a brand begging to up their follower count.  By all means join a networking hour or group and suggest you’d like to make some useful connections, but keep it businesslike, not asking simply to get your follower count up.

Remember to aim for valuable followers due to the quality of your content.
