Facebook to roll out “Reactions” Feature

One of the most requested features on Facebook over recent years has been the addition of a “dislike” button to run alongside the “like” feature.

Well it seems Facebook have been listening.  Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg confirmed in a conference call that “pretty soon” the new Reactions feature would be available to its 1.5 billion users.

Mark Zuckerberg went on to discuss that giving a range of options rather than a simple opposite emotion to the LIke button, added “a little bit of complexity” saying “when you only have a Like button, if you share a sad piece of content or something that makes you angry, people may not have the tool to react to it”.

The new Reactions feature is currently on trial in several countries and will involve Emojis for “love”, “wow”, “haha”, “sad” and “angry”.

Our Director Rachel Barratt said “I think this is the next logical step for Facebook – it provides the user with a more nuanced and subtle experience.  And Emojis are certainly a popular way of communicating!”

Let us know what you think, does this get the traditional Facebook thumbs up from you? Or is it a poorly thought out gimmick?

Tips on Tuesday

Welcome to the first Tip on Tuesday of 2016!

FacebookLogoOur first tip is short and sweet and focuses on Facebook and is simply this; if at all possible, post directly to Facebook rather than using a social media management tool.  Facebook algorithms are created to favour content posted personally, meaning you have a greater chance of your content appearing in people’s timelines.

Our Tips on Tuesday section is really about helping you – so let us know what you would like advice on and we will make sure you’re featured!

Jurassic Coast Holiday Home Management

The Cedar House

We were contacted by Jurassic Coast Holiday Home Management at the advent of their online career.  They had made a great website themselves using a free service, but wanted our advice on streamlining that website, ensuring they met Search Engine Optimisation best practice and creating a thriving presence on social media.

We are delighted to announce that after an initial consultation, we have created a partnership and are really excited to be working with Jurassic Coast Holiday Home Management.

If you’d like to find out a little more about what they do, please visit their website.

Amazon Natural Fitness

Amazon Natural Fitness contacted us to help them out with their social media.  Phil and Anna who run the gym both have other jobs and they found they simply couldn’t afford the time to make use of social media and digital marketing to increase their membership numbers.

That’s where we’ve stepped in.   As part of our agreement with Amazon we’re handling their social media presence, improving their online brand and dealing with search engine optimisation on their website.  We are dedicating several hours per week to making use of free social media advertising to help increase awareness of Amazon Natural Fitness in the local area.

We’re really pleased to be working with a local business and tailoring our social media packages to exactly meet their requirements.  It is really important to us that we work with all the staff at Amazon – and we encourage them to be active on the brand social media accounts too!

You can visit Amazon’s excellent website here.  Amazon are also on Facebook, Twitter and a newly launched Instagram account!  Have a look around and keep your eyes out for increased content through all platforms as we work with the talented owners of Amazon!

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip is short and sweet and can be applied to any of your social media channels.

When responding to your followers, people who have liked your page etc. make sure you make them part of what you’re trying to create.

Use “we” as an inclusive term.  It makes your brand much more human and makes the people who interact with you feel like a valuable part of your team.  Make them part of your achievements “we did it!” and remember to thank them once in a while for being part of your success!

Tips on Tuesday

Doesn’t Tuesday come round quickly?  Here we are with another of our helpful tips to keep you on top of the social media marketing game.

Today we want to impress upon you the importance of not making your social media feeds all about you!

Whilst it is so tempting to promote who you are and what you do, you need to make sure you’re delivering good content, not just spam.   Engage with people, share other content you find interesting or useful.  The idea behind social media is all about creating symbiotic relationships – which means that you have to do your bit in nurturing these.

Remember, it only takes one click for someone to unfollow you.  Don’t let that happen!

We look forward to seeing you again next week for some more tips!

Today’s tip concerns nothing but patience!

Using social media as a marketing tool is a slow burn – don’t expect results with the first tweet or photo or status.  You might get a couple of likes, or a share or two, but a marketing campaign is just that.  A collection of smaller actions moving towards a larger goal.

Keep working at it, be consistent and remember than every small action you take is valuable and moving you towards your end goal.

Tips on Tuesday

After a very lovely holiday we’re back and ready to help you out again with our regular Tips on Tuesday series.

To get back into the swing, our first time is a short, simple one.  Do a little research and know the best times and days to post for the industry you are promoting.

As a rule of thumb this will be Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm but it can vary – spend a few days checking when your competitors post to social media – and when they get their best response.

A little time invested in research will bring rewards when you are able to streamline your posting.

See you again next week for another Tip!

Tips on Tuesday

We’re back on a very scorching Tuesday to take some of the heat off you in terms of your social media posts!

We strongly advocate having a social media schedule, we think its important, especially for a small business with a limited budget, to use marketing time wisely and to know what will be posted and when.

However, don’t be afraid of spontaneity and creativity.   If something is unfolding on social media don’t be afraid to participate, make use of it, tap into trending topics.

It is important to keep a sense of relevance to your own personal brand – but taking a chance here and there with your social media presence might just reap very good rewards.
