Tips on Tuesday

Clients often ask me if there’s any point them being on Instagram because they don’t believe their business lends itself to the channel.

My response is, if you can take a picture of something related to you or your business then get on Instagram!

I love Instagram to have a bit of fun with, to really show the personality behind the business.  As we all work towards a new normal, why not try using Instagram now.  Share some images of your new work-mates, your new workspace.  Keep the team together whilst they can’t actually be together!

Tips on Tuesday

We’ve long been an advocate of using the analytical tools available to you when measuring your social media performance.

Don't Panic

However it is also vital to remember that external factors can have a massive effect upon your social media.  We are living through unprecedented and uncharted times; if your “failsafe” posts aren’t performing, then don’t panic.

The way we use social media; and the way your clients respond to social media; will change massively over the coming weeks as we all settle into our new version of normal.   Remember part of being successful on-line is being flexible.  Keep posting, keep monitoring and keep in contact!

Resilience will play a big factor in performance during the coming months, you can add to your resilience by consistency of online delivery.

“Social media channels give you the chance to be in a room when you can’t be in the room!” ~ Rachel Barratt

Togetherness image

In very uncertain times it can be especially hard to know that being together is not possible.  Remember you have a wealth of ways at your fingers tips to be in contact with your family and friends even if you can’t be together in person.

Use your social media to check up on loved ones, to create local groups offering assistance and give each other a platform to connect when loneliness is a big concern.

As a business we understand these are particularly worrying times, and we would say your online presence is more vital than ever.  Connect with your customers, ensure your business remains in people’s consciousness – remember, whilst we’re all dealing with a new normal there are ways for you to try to adapt.  Consider what you can do remotely – can you offer video calls? Training online? Remote support?

We’re all in this together and we WILL get through this.

Tips on Tuesday

Hands up who loves the thought of using video on your social media channels but never gets around to it?!  Did you know that it is estimated that by 2022, online videos will account for more than 82% of all consumer internet traffic?

Video Camera

Short videos are a really great way to grab people’s attention on social media and drive interaction and conversation.   Social media success lies very much in your ability to share worthwhile content in small chunks, and videos should be no different.

Videos are a great way of increasing your brand exposure.  After all if a picture is worth a thousand words, imagine what a video would be worth?!  Whilst you don’t need to spend a fortune on a professional video, you must make sure your images are sharp and the sound quality is good.  You don’t want to damage your image by sharing substandard content.

Videos are a great way of giving your business some personality, and allowing viewers to see the people and processes behind your brand.   Human interest can drive interaction in a much more positive way than purely sales-based posts.

Why not give yourself a challenge, pick up your video camera and get shooting!

Tips on Tuesday

Remember the old adage “sharing is caring”?  It might be trite, but it is true!

Sharing

If you see some great content online, don’t be afraid to share it.  Even better if you add a comment of your own!  Sharing someone else’s content isn’t directing your customers elsewhere but showing that your timeline isn’t always about you, your confidence in being able to acknowledge when a competitor has made an excellent point and giving people more great content to read.  You also have the chance to make some great sector connections and of course people will return the favour!

If you like something, pass it on!

Tips on Tuesday

Remember social media is just that, social so every business with social media channels is putting themselves out there.

With such a wealth of information out there, don’t be afraid to take a look at what your competitors are doing social media wise! Obviously we aren’t advocating plagiarizing and we emphasise the importance of creating your own content, however it can be useful to monitor established accounts within your sector to get an idea of what sort of posts work well, what timing works and even which channels are most successful for businesses like yours.

There are so many examples out there and freely available – make use of them!  Just don’t get so bogged down in comparison you spend more time on their channels than your own!

Tips on Tuesday

Have you got your social media strategy in place for the coming year?

Planning

Remember your strategy should cover the following: –

  1. Online presence – where will you send prospective customers to find out more?
  2. Content strategy – where are your target audience and what sort of content do they look for?
  3. Social media – which social media channels you will use and what content you will share
  4. Brand – this should be in place before you venture into the online word and should cover a name, a logo, and a voice.
  5. Analytics/insights – use the tools provided to collate data on your online performance which will help you improve your performance.
  6. Content management – keeping track of all the information you share including planning future posts.

How do you like to plan?
