Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip is about the most important thing for you when running a business – efficiency.

One of the most underutilized functions on Twitter is the ability to create Twitter Lists.  The lists allow you to organise and view the content most important to you, which then appears in a separate feed.  So for example you could have Twitter Lists for customers, potential customers, other accounts in the profession you interact with, professional advisers, etc.

The benefit of a Twitter List is you know who you’re engaging with, and have less content to sort through to make relevant contact and conversation.  This is where the efficiency part comes in – less time sorting through feeds means more time spent on meaningful interaction.

Create a list by clicking on the cog icon on your Twitter profile, and hitting the “Create List” button.  Give your list an identifying name and choose whether you want it to be private or public.  Then simply search for people you want to add to your list and insert them via the cog icon at the top of their profile.

You can also use public lists to discover useful contacts.  You can find public lists through anyone’s Twitter profile.  And remember, you don’t need to follow someone to utilise their public lists.

Happy organising!

Tips on Tuesday

Good afternoon everyone, you’re just in time to see this week’s Tip on Tuesday.

Today’s tip is in response to a saga I have been watching unfold on social media.  The tip does, in part, refer to a previous tip which you read here about the important of customer service.

Our tip is in fact very short.  Do NOT delete negative messages on your social media profiles.  That will create such a bad feeling about your brand.  Rather than delete; respond, apologise and ask what you can do to put things right.   Every business in the world will receive bad feedback at some point.  It is how you deal with that feedback that counts.

See you same time next week!

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip is short and sweet and can be applied to any of your social media channels.

When responding to your followers, people who have liked your page etc. make sure you make them part of what you’re trying to create.

Use “we” as an inclusive term.  It makes your brand much more human and makes the people who interact with you feel like a valuable part of your team.  Make them part of your achievements “we did it!” and remember to thank them once in a while for being part of your success!

Tune in at the same time next week for more Tips!

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s tip is specific to Twitter.

Today we’re going to suggest to all smaller businesses to get involved with local hours on Twitter.  These tend to be a weekly event, usually lasting an hour and curated under the umbrella of a single parent account.

These hours are very useful as a free networking tool and very easy to become involved in.   So have a search, see whether there are any you can become involved in and if not start your own!  We definitely recommend taking the time to see what wonderful opportunities to find out about other local businesses these hours give you.

Some of the hours local to us at Aire Media are: –

#ilkleyhour – Monday 7-8pm

#otleyhour – Thursday 7-8pm

#yorkshirehour – Wednesday 8-9pm

#skiptonhour – Tuesday 9-10pm

#bradfordhour – Thursday 8-9pm

#bingleyhour – Tuesday 8-9pm

It is our very first time currating #bingleyhour tonight.  Find us at @BingleyHour or via @Aire_Media and come and get involved!

Tips on Tuesday

Doesn’t Tuesday come round quickly?  Here we are with another of our helpful tips to keep you on top of the social media marketing game.

Today we want to impress upon you the importance of not making your social media feeds all about you!

Whilst it is so tempting to promote who you are and what you do, you need to make sure you’re delivering good content, not just spam.   Engage with people, share other content you find interesting or useful.  The idea behind social media is all about creating symbiotic relationships – which means that you have to do your bit in nurturing these.

Remember, it only takes one click for someone to unfollow you.  Don’t let that happen!

We look forward to seeing you again next week for some more tips!

Today’s tip concerns nothing but patience!

Using social media as a marketing tool is a slow burn – don’t expect results with the first tweet or photo or status.  You might get a couple of likes, or a share or two, but a marketing campaign is just that.  A collection of smaller actions moving towards a larger goal.

Keep working at it, be consistent and remember than every small action you take is valuable and moving you towards your end goal.

Tips on Tuesday

After a very lovely holiday we’re back and ready to help you out again with our regular Tips on Tuesday series.

To get back into the swing, our first time is a short, simple one.  Do a little research and know the best times and days to post for the industry you are promoting.

As a rule of thumb this will be Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm but it can vary – spend a few days checking when your competitors post to social media – and when they get their best response.

A little time invested in research will bring rewards when you are able to streamline your posting.

See you again next week for another Tip!

Tips on Tuesday

We’re using today’s tip to give a very important piece of information that everyone who uses social media for their business should remember.  Although this tip is also useful for those who only use social media on a personal basis.

Keep passwords of your accounts safe.  Don’t give them out to anyone unless they’re a trusted employee and are dealing with the social media aspect of your business.

It is very easy for social media accounts to be hacked – and a hacked account can cause people to unfollow immediately which means all your hard work in gaining followers is lost and can undermine your reputation as a brand.

Keep your accounts secure.  Have complicated passwords, even use a random generator, that cannot be guessed and store them somewhere secure.

If the worst happens and your account is hacked make sure you deal with it quickly and competently.  Apologise to your followers and let them know you’ve rectified the situation and change passwords on all your accounts.

Keep safe!

Tips on Tuesday

We’re back on a very scorching Tuesday to take some of the heat off you in terms of your social media posts!

We strongly advocate having a social media schedule, we think its important, especially for a small business with a limited budget, to use marketing time wisely and to know what will be posted and when.

However, don’t be afraid of spontaneity and creativity.   If something is unfolding on social media don’t be afraid to participate, make use of it, tap into trending topics.

It is important to keep a sense of relevance to your own personal brand – but taking a chance here and there with your social media presence might just reap very good rewards.
