Tips on Tuesday

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we’re going to work with Pinterest.

Pinterest is a really great way of showing your company’s personality.  You can afford to be a little frivolous on Pinterest.

Why not create boards for all your employees to share the things they love.  It changes a faceless company into a group of people potential customers can really relate to because their personality shines through.

It’s great to be professional.  It is brilliant to be professional with personality.

Tips on Tuesday

Today’s Tip on Tuesday can be applied to all your social media channels.

Troll Tips on Tuesday blog

Quite simply today’s tip is about trolls.  Sadly social media trolls are not as cute as the little guy above, who we like a LOT!  And we say mute them on Twitter or unfollow them on Facebook!

We prefer muting/unfollowing to blocking for a couple of reasons: –

  1. The person you have muted does not know you have muted them
  2. Muting essential does the same as blocking but it can be easily reversed if you change your mind.

Trolls want a response.  They will soon get bored and move on if you don’t engage with them.

That isn’t to say you shouldn’t block and/or someone who is becoming increasingly abusive.  However for a more diplomatic action, which can be important with a work brand, muting is the way to go!

Tips on Tuesday

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we are going to take a look at YouTube.

Did you know that YouTube is the second largest search engine and processes over 3 billion searches a month.

Having a YouTube channel can be a real bonus for your brand……if you use it wisely.  Keep videos professional looking and less than one minute in length.  lengthy videos simply lose people’s attention and it is virtually impossible to get them back!

Today in Tips on Tuesday we’re going to visit Facebook

Facebook Aire Media Blog

It is really important to remember that on Facebook short posts stand out.  In a channel where there isn’t a character limit, the one liner posts can be eye-catching and of course read in seconds which means you have customer engagement.

Long messages CAN work but they MUST be compelling.  If they’re not exciting enough, people won’t finish reading the post and your message will not get through.

Keep it concise and informative.  Grab people.  Once you have made the initial connection, then you can start having more lengthy conversation.

Tips on Tuesday

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we’re concentrating on Twitter

Tips on Tuesday hashtag

Today’s tip is to create an original hashtag for your marketing campaign.  Rather than using a hashtag that is already created, find something new and unique that reflects your brand.  And then use it.  Use it wherever you can and become a voice.

Make yourselves get noticed by being trend setters!

Tips on Tuesday

For today’s Tip on Tuesday we’re going to advise on something that can be applied to all your social media channels.

I am sure you will have all been followed by accounts on your social media platforms that promise “1000 followers for $10” and other variations.

Our advice is simply don’t.  You won’t be buying real followers, it will just be a raft of accounts specifically created for this purpose.  If you buy a large number of followers, the quality of your audience will be diluted and the impact of your posts will diminish.

Never has the old saying “quality over quantity” been more apt.

Tips on Tuesday

A more positive Tip than last week’s today and one that can apply to all your social media marketing (and indeed can be extrapolated to apply to your full marketing plan).

Audit image Aire Media

Our Tip on Tuesday today is do a regular audit of your marketing strategy.  Don’t be satisfied with simply posting on social media, regularly take the time to find out what works well, what doesn’t work so well and whether any of your posts created problems.

In order to keep a fresh and vibrant social media presence you need to ensure your profiles are the best they can be, so do take time once a month to review and reflect and make those changes to keep you ahead of the game.

See you next week – and happy reviewing!

Tips on Tuesday

A slight deviation for us today, in that we’re going to talk about online bullying and abuse.  Whilst this does fit under our remit for education, it isn’t a usual topic for our Tips on Tuesday segment but it is certainly a topic worth visiting.

We wrote a lengthy post on keeping children safe on social media here and we feel the message must be that if you see instances of cyber bullying report it.

Immediate steps – and this is our tip – you can take are: –

  1. Don’t respond or engage
  2. Keep evidence
  3. Block the person who is bullying
  4. Report to the relevant social media site the bullying appears on.

Bullying Uk have written an excellent piece on Cyber Bullying and you can report instances of online abuse by visiting stopbullying.gov and following their report tool.

You can also report Hate Speech online by using the following details: –

Tips on Tuesday

For today’s tip we are giving a little general advice.

controversy definition

Stay away from controversial topics.  Even if your view isn’t offensive you run the risk of getting drawn into conversations you might not want to be in.

It is imperative to keep a squeaky clean profile than will ensure your brand has respect and your voice carries weight within your sector.

Way back in one of our first Tips on Tuesday we talked about keeping business and personal profiles separate and I think now is a good time to remind you of the importance of just that.  That isn’t to say your business profile can’t have a personal touch, but just keep the contentious topics for your own timeline!

See you next week.

Tips on Tuesday

Last week we spoke about resharing content on Facebook in this post.

For today’s Tip we are visiting the same topic on Twitter.  Last week, Twitter announced that they were making it possible for users to retweet their own content, which makes sharing your posts much easier.

Don’t be afraid to share your content again with a “have you seen this” or “we spoke about this here”.  As long as you don’t spam your followers it is a perfectly valid marketing tool to ensure what you have said is seen.
